Iina

Welcome to the Iina Coalition, Inc. website!

The Iina Coalition, Inc.., a private, nonprofit organization located in Chinle, Arizona, serves a population of over 31,000 people in the central region of the Navajo Nation. The Coalition coordinates planning, programs, and services to promote health and wellness.

In 1997, local service providers met together and formed the Red Ribbon Campaign Committee to pro vide education and information about drugs and alcohol abuse and available resources which help in combating these dangerous and unhealthy lifestyles.

In 1999, having recognized that there were more needs to be addressed, the Red Ribbon Campaign Committee changed its name to Iina Coalition and expanded its role in our community and chapters. The Coalition applied for and was granted non-profit status from the Navajo Nation and I.R.S. and has been actively working since then, primarily in the fields of drug and alcohol prevention and nutrition awareness and education.

All activities have been carried out without paid staff, using staff of local service providers as well as community members. In 2005 the Coalition hired its first paid staff member to manage the finances and reporting for a nutrition grant from the State of Arizona and administered by the CHR Program. Additional paid positions were added to the Coalition in fall of 2006. In 2007, achieving self sufficiency into the future by continuing to grow, expand and provide increased community services, we now entered an important phase in our organization.
